Join us as our Engagement Associate!

Increasing awareness of, and engagement with, cutting edge scientific developments – including gene editing and genomic medicine, Artificial Intelligence, and Big Data – means general publics are able to get their voices heard on some of the areas that are already shaping our lives. But at KCESP we also believe this engagement improves the science itself – encouraging scientists to think about wider society, and the impact of their research, from the very earliest stages of their projects and careers.

As our Engagement Associate you will research and design a range of ways to expand and enrich the conversation between science and diverse publics on some of the most cutting-edge and potentially controversial issues of our time. You will be looking far beyond what is ‘usually’ done in this area and come up with projects that are genuinely innovative, imaginative, and impactful. In addition, you will be responsible for the day-to -day public profile of the Centre, including designing and writing all social media and website outputs, and managing and developing relationships with our public, creative, scientific, and academic networks.

You will be working closely with colleagues in public engagement and the social sciences based at the Kavli Centre, the University of Cambridge, and at Wellcome Connecting Science, as well as directly with a diverse range of publics, creative practitioners and career scientists as we bring these projects to fruition and continue to refine our thinking together.

You may come to us from a public engagement, media, creative, or project/events management background. You may even have a science degree – that would be great too. But whatever your story, you must be a very skilled and sensitive communicator, and as good at listening as you are at talking. You will be highly creative and adaptable, with the practical and organisational skills to turn those great ideas into reality. You will have a strong sense of social justice and will want your working life to make a difference in the ‘real world’.

Our team has a global focus and works with a range of international partners. We are looking for an Engagement Associate with genuine curiosity about the world, cultural awareness, and ideally experience of living and working in a wide variety of settings.  We expect this role to be office-based, in central Cambridge, for a minimum of 3 days a week.
